AERO was established in 2006 to provide EMS support for eleven counties of North Alabama through an Alabama Department of Public Health, Office of EMS grant. Education and Pre-hospital Healthcare System oversite are two of AERO's primary support functions.

Agencies have reported drastic medication error reduction as well as up to 35% neuro intact survival rates from out of hospital pediatric arrest after implementation of the Handtevy System and education. The Handtevy Pre-Hospital Pediatric Provider Course is a 4-hour live lecture and hands-on course that focuses on the skills needed to rapidly and accurately treat the sick and injured pediatric patient. The course uses the basic tenets of ACLS training as the foundation while still covering the basic pediatric ALS principles and nuances. The course and is intended to be used with the Handtevy Pediatric System.
